WHAT … is the role of our Media Chaplain?
The Essex Church Leaders, together with the Methodist Church nationally, appointed our Media Chaplain in 2004 to support the 100 plus commercial radio stations in Essex and London. 

Tony aims to:
  
  * Offer pastoral support and care to those in the industry.
  * Build bridges and understanding between the churches and      radio stations.
  * Enable young people to become involved through
     encouragement and training.
  * Speak ecumenically - nurturing awareness, interest and      involvement.
   
WHY … is this role necessary?
The ‘missing generations’ in our churches listen to commercial radio in large numbers, yet, until now, the Christian churches had no recognised ecumenical engagement with this fast-moving and vibrant industry. 
   
WHO … is Tony Miles?  
Tony is a Methodist Minister and past chair of the ECLBG. 
His vision of a ‘media chaplaincy’ has led to this part-time appointment, which is initially being funded for three years. 
Tony also works at Methodist Central Hall, Westminster. 
An experienced commercial radio presenter, he is a trustee of the Churches Media Council and a member of the Radio Academy.
